SOUTHGATE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
Our Vision: To be a community of radical grace impacting Tuggeranong and beyond.
Our Mission: To invite people to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
WHO WE ARE
The Collaboration
Southgate Christian Community is a collaborative worship and ministry venture between two churches, the Alliance Church Calwell and Brindabella Baptist Church.
We believe that God has directed us to work together rather than apart to strengthen both churches and enrich how we serve our wider community. The collaboration began mid-2014 and we commenced weekly worship together in Feb 2015. Our purpose is to express life as a community of believers transformed by the power of the Cross, secure in the Father’s love, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve like Jesus served.
Alliance Church Calwell (formerly Tuggeranong Alliance Church) was planted in 1990 and met for a number of years in Tuggeranong Community Centre before erecting the current church facility. As a part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance the church emphasises the importance of the deeper life with Christ and international mission.
Brindabella Baptist Church was planted in 1991 and seeks to be Spirit-led and honour Jesus in all we do. Our core values are to love God, love God’s Word, love others and love ourselves. We seek to honour each person and gift that Jesus brings into our community. BBC is a part of the Baptist Union of ACT and NSW.
OUR VALUES
-
We will seek to worship God with our whole being,
-
We will be committed to an evangelical understanding of Scripture recognising the vital place of prayerful and Holy-Spirit-led lives,
-
We will love and honour one another,
-
We will seek to release people into ministry so that the ‘right people are in the right ministry at the right time’ according to God’s direction,
-
We will be culturally appropriate and authentic in both church ministry and community outreach,
-
We will focus on loving outreach while seeking to mature the church as each person makes their unique contribution.
BELIEFS
-
God eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
-
The Bible is the inspired, authoritative word of God and is the only rule for faith and practice.
-
All people are created in God’s image and thus have dignity and value.
-
Jesus Christ died on the cross, rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven and will physically return to earth to consummate His kingdom. He is the hope of humankind and only by His atoning work can a person be reconciled to God.
-
The Holy Spirit has been sent to indwell, sanctify and empower the believer to live for the glory of God.
-
The Church has been called by God to share the Gospel in word and deed both locally and globally.
CONNECT
Southgate has a number of ways to be involved in its ministries. Come to our Sunday morning service and meet us.
SUNDAY WORSHIP
At 10:00am every Sunday Southgate Christian Community meets to worship.
Come and join us in fellowship at 33 Were St, Calwell or online through the live-stream and YouTube videos available on Facebook.
Our service includes a time of communal worship, opportunities for individual and congregational prayer, communion, scripture readings and a sermon. Once a month we run a relaxed outdoor brunch service with greater space and opportunity for fellowship.
Children are invited to attend kids' church part way through the service during school term.
KIDS' CHURCH
At Southgate we aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment to teach your children about faith and the Bible. The program runs during school term time catering for children from 3 years old to primary school.
We have a ‘self-service’ creche available for under 3 year olds when needed. Parents are able to access the space, which has toys and books, while still listening to the service.
Kid’s Church for older children is available most weeks (apart from brunch mornings). On other mornings where there is no organised Kid’s Church, children are welcome to stay in the service with semi-structured activities made available, often linked to the sermon topic.
MAINLY MUSIC
Mainly Music is a fun music group which provides an environment where preschool children can develop skills to enhance their preschool education. This is done through the use of music, rhythm, rhyme, and other music related activities, with the participation of a parent or primary care-giver.
Conducted on Wednesday mornings from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm, children develop gross and fine motor skills, language, imagination, mathematical and pre-reading skills, and also socialise with each other.
Mainly Music is run by volunteers from our church. Children are introduced to music, creativity and more, plus families are given a chance to think about the God-part of life. Importantly, it all happens in a loving, shared family environment.
SMALL GROUPS
Small groups are an important part of the ministry at Southgate. In these groups people find connection at a deeper level than is possible in a large group. Small groups of different types operate in the southern suburbs of the Tuggeranong valley.
